The Assembly Rooms

The Assembly Rooms

Our main venue for conference talks, workshops and tutorials on 29-31st May is The Assembly Rooms, in the heart of Edinburgh’s New Town.

The Assembly Rooms is a Georgian building, now restored to her former glory. It is elegantly designed with glittering crystal chandeliers, gleaming gold leaf and impressive gilt mirrors reflecting the history and tradition of the building. As well as providing a stunning setting for DjangoCon Europe 2023, its location in the very centre of the city makes it perfect for exploring and getting a taste of Edinburgh while you’re here.

Sprints

The Biscuit Factory

The Biscuit Factory

Sprints will be held on 1st and 2nd June at The Biscuit Factory, in Leith.

The Biscuit Factory is a creative arts and events hub. It was built in 1947 by Crawfords Biscuits and is now home to 32 creative businesses who together make a significant contribution to the culture in Leith. Keeping most of the original fixtures and fittings, The Biscuit Factory is a unique venue, and an opportunity to experience a different part of the city.

Leith is a port area to the north of the city centre, founded at the mouth of the Water of Leith, with the original harbour dating back to the 14th century. It has a tumultuous history with the rest of the city, and was previously an independent town before being merged into Edinburgh in 1920.

Social Event

The Caves

The Caves

The social event for this year’s DjangoCon Europe will be held at The Caves.

The Caves is a truly unique venue that makes up the sub-structure of the 18th Century South Bridge. There was once so much whisky stored here that it became known as “Whisky Row”!

Every room has a story to tell and a special place in Scottish history - from vaults that served as the stables to the French Cavalry who were at one time body guards to the Royal Family, to remains of the houses that pre-date the Bridge itself - with the original terracotta floor tiles still intact!
